I started to study skies and clouds after learning in Scripture that the “cloud” symbolizes the presence of God over the Old Testament Holy of Holies Tabernacle. I see the clouds now as not only a symbol of His “presence”, but also His faithfulness. The same clouds that followed God’s people in the wilderness are still here for us […]
Cards are a simple way to share artwork with others. A good photograph of artwork can be produced in card form for personal enrichment and sent for special occasions. Christmas time is the most exciting time to create them for I get caught up in the spirit of the season. Shop available greetings cards
Alleys and rooftops are a fascination to me. What is the “story” behind the facade? What happens when our dwellings meet the sky? My curiosity is peaked often by an inviting view and frustrating if I am in an auto traveling and cannot notate it in a sketch. The image usually haunts me until I can revisit it and create a sketch […]
Stunning vistas are nature’s “beauty on display” and are an attraction to an artist… especially “en plein air” artist. Daily, monthly, yearly, nature offers an endless supply of color and atmosphere. Inspired, I respond to it with pencil, paint, and enthusiasm! Landscapes, captured, can become visual treasures.
Sketches are just FUN! The pencil is an simple tool and it travels easily around the sketchpad. It is quick and relaxing to draw. I keep a pad near me to capture something unexpected – I like visual surprises.
Portraits of people and animals are challenging. To capture “life”, working from a live model is best. Sometimes photographs are used for classroom/studio purposes, but are inferior to live models. I did much portrait work early in my career, but had not thought to keep a record of them (before I had a digital camera!) before delivering […]
It was the 1950th Holy Year of the Redemption and our new pastor invited the Worship Committee to celebrate it in music, flowers, vestment-making and art. We were all “on board” and thrilled to serve our parish in this way. It was an unforgettable year! A newly-ordained priest ask me to design the altar space behind the tabernacle for […]
Spring flowers get my attention. The avalanche of color and variety of flowers is exhilarating. All the seasons have their gifts, but Spring offers a promise of renewed life. I painted only flowers for one year and this gallery reflects some of that work.
While rewarding, book illustration has been the most challenging for me. All the other art comes from my decisions alone. With illustration, attention must be given to express the intent of the author/client and be documented in visual form.
