Russell Interpretation

Acrylic on canvas, 72″ x 72″.

The senior high school art class was asked to decorate for an NHS sponsored senior citizen dance with a “Wild West” theme. I elected to paint a large backdrop canvas and chose a small black and white drawing by Charles Russell to interpret in color. Russell, himself, never developed this drawing into a painting. I had been to Arizona several times and was confident that I could get the colors right. This was started as a classroom demonstration and has since been stretched to a frame and hangs in a Scottsdale, Arizona home.
